FAQ
Hair transplant questions, answered
Plain answers to the questions patients ask most in consultation.
Is an FUE hair transplant painful?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, so the scalp is numb. Most patients feel the numbing injections and a pulling or pressure sensation at times, and then mostly nothing. Soreness afterwards is usually mild and managed with simple medication.
Will I be awake during the procedure?
Yes. You are awake and comfortable, and you can watch films, talk or take a break when you want one. Dr. Contractor will go over comfort options with you at your consultation.
How long does the procedure take?
It is a same-day procedure and the length depends on the number of grafts planned. Larger sessions take most of a day, with breaks built in. You go home the same day.
What is recovery like?
Most people return to desk work within a few days, though redness and small scabs in the treated areas take longer to settle. You will receive written aftercare instructions, and activities such as hard exercise are paused for a period.
When will I see results?
Transplanted hairs usually shed in the first weeks and new growth typically starts around months 3 to 4. The full result is generally seen around 12 months. Individual results vary.
How much does a hair transplant cost in Dallas?
Cost depends mainly on the number of grafts, the technique and any add-ons. We explain the factors in plain terms and give you an estimate after your consultation. Read the cost guide →
Why does punch size and tip type matter?
The punch is the small instrument that removes each follicle. Dr. Contractor selects and adjusts its diameter, depth and tip for each patient's hair and skin so grafts come out whole and the donor area is protected. See how punch selection works →
Am I a good candidate?
It depends on the stability of your hair loss, the density of your donor area and your goals. A consultation with Dr. Contractor is the only way to answer this honestly, and sometimes the answer is to wait or to start with medical treatment.
Will a hair transplant look natural?
Natural-looking results depend on hairline design, graft placement and the angle and direction of each hair. Dr. Contractor maps the hairline by hand so it suits your face and still looks right as you age.
Is there a linear scar or are there stitches?
FUE does not leave a linear scar and does not require stitches in the donor area. Each extraction leaves a very small dot-like mark that is typically hidden by surrounding hair.
What type of hair transplant does Lone Star offer?
Lone Star Hair Transplant offers FUE only, without a robotic system. FUE removes follicular units one at a time using a tiny circular punch, rather than removing a strip of scalp.
Can women have a hair transplant?
Some women are good candidates, depending on the pattern and cause of their hair loss. A consultation can include a review of possible medical causes first.
Do I need to shave my head?
Often the donor area is trimmed short for extraction. Your options will be discussed before the day so you know what to expect.
Will the transplanted hair last?
Hair taken from the back and sides of the scalp is generally resistant to the thinning that affects the front and top, so transplanted hair tends to be long-lasting. Non-transplanted hair can still thin over time.
